PSP and PS3 need firmware updates to activate remote play

PSP to PS3
The moment we got hold of this news, we were like, "They're not ready!?!" And we're telling you now, we'd like to be proven wrong. So before we become all riled up about this again, we'll just tell you what's the whole deal with PS3 System Software v1.10 and PSP firmware v3.0.

You are all aware o
f the PSP-PS3 remote play functionality, right? Simply put, the function allows people to use their handhelds as a remote media player for the PS3. Also, this allows some PlayStation Network downloaded content to be played on the PSP.

The thing is, we learned today that the feature is not immediately available at launch. PSP owners need to download version 3.0 of the firmware to activate the above mentioned connectivity. The firmware download will only become available by the end of November.

On to PS3 matters, we also learned that the launch units don't come with proper firmwares that can actually connect the new PlayStation Network hub. Sony itself admitted that soon-to-be owners of the next-gen console would need to update their system by running firmware System Software Version 1.10.

While the latter is available through the System Update option under the settings header of the cross media bar the moment people turn on their PS3 units, it is still a wonder why this has to be done. Your thoughts ?
