Here's something interesting: PSOne, after being around for so long, just got its own PSP emulation program - and it's far from being 100% playable. How about PSP homebrew games emulated on a PS2? Now, that got your attention.

lame has just updated SmallNethostGui to v0.2. Nethost, in a nutshell, is an application which allows you to use your PC's hard-disk, in much the same way as you would use it in USBHost. The only difference is that the experience will be wireless and much more enjoyable since you won't be wired to your PC.
Here's the changelog for the latest version: - NEW -
- Values are stored in an ini file, not in the registry.
- Ported to Delphi, no need of NET 2.0.
- GUI functions for usbhostfs included.
- Improved Port Handling, no need to activate it manually.
- Removed "runas" functionality

Presumably the one big disappointment with Sony's FW 3.0 PSOne emulator is that you need a PS3 to download the game files to begin with, and those aren't exactly a dime a dozen. So, that leaves the stand-alone homebrew PSOne emulators from the scene. Anonymous Coder has just released his PS1P-Alpha 1 PSOne emulator for the PSP. No t to be confused with the almost similarly-named PSX-P (PS1) emulator by Yoshihiro (now v2), but looking forwards to the same functionality. There were rumors that this emulator was to be made to support only a single game. That concept was discarded as the author decided to write a single emulator to support multiple games. You can read a few words from the Anonymous Coder below.

Just a few short minutes after releasing HEN D, Dark_AleX has just released 2.71 SE-C Custom Firmware, the update to the new golden firmware.
And while the changelog is small to say the least, the great thing is that the newly released SDK along with it will make sure that all the new updates will actually be rolled out in the form of modules.

Has Sony forgotten to mention something special about firmware 3.00? A discussion has been brewing, and although we wouldn't usually post assumptions, this discussion has pretty good reason to suggest that some games are running at a speed higher than 222Mhz on the new firmware 3.00. It all started with a forum user called Colombian Cartel (thanks for the tip!) who claimed that Metal Gear Acid and Metal Gear Acid 2 have been running a lot quicker since he upgraded to firmware 3.0, with the blinking effect on the game menu going much quicker than when he was on a lower firmware.

Before we go into the topic at hand, this writer just has to say... dang, this game looks grrreat! I mean seriously, the graphics are so kickass you could easily mistake it for a UMD game. And based on the responses that we got when we posted PSP Dungeons 3D v0.5, I think it's safe to say that I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

While almost all of the PSP crowd has migrated to the 2.71 SE custom firmware by Dark_AleX, there exists a small group of unlucky people (TA-082ers) who can't enjoy that on their PSPs. For them though, Dark_AleX makes sure that they can enjoy most of the kernel mode homebrew using Homebrew Enabler, or HEN.

Surfing through the net and our newstips, we found this one news from dgmr22 about (yes, like the title says) a claimed 2.71/2.80 Hybrid DevHook from Chaos Zero for SE-B. And here we go! The PSP has just found its latest trick. Besides being a handheld gaming console which also doubles as a camera, a GPS device, a portable media player, an image viewer and so many others that we can't even recall right now, the PSP can also function as a wireless remote control. On another system.
As shown in this video uploaded by LotoBak, the PSP is shown going through the Xbox Media Center via a WiFi connection. The whole experiment was only put to a halt, just because the WiFi gave out. Pretty nifty, huh? (Though one has to admit that it's still an expensive alternative for a peripheral, unlike the mania with the Wii which currently has people replacing the sensor bar with random objects like candles or flashlights... but to each his own, I suppose...)

Rumor alert!!! Did we just boost the spirits of our readers? PSP homebrew developer, Yongobongo, stopped by our forums to share to us version 4b of his creation, yPaint. For the uninitiated, this app is a drawing application for the PSP, which is perfect for people who like to dabble on some artistic activities while on the go.
yPaint, according to the dev, is an all-in-one image editor which would allow you to save and open images for editing. It features a full color selection tool, line lengths, and an in-development GUI. Now that the trip down memory lane is over and your memories are refreshed, let's jump to the new features of yPaint v4b.

A lot of people say that playing addictive single-player games is an anti-social thing to do in a party. But heck, who cares? At least you know you're having your own party with your PSP, right? You can't help trying to have your own fun if the rest of the people in the party are all smooching each other left and right. Can't you have your own fun?
Here's an option. One of the more enjoyable addictive homebrew games we've come across is Super Mario Power Coins. As with any other addictive game, the formula for enjoyment equates to just one simple goal in this game: grab as many coins without getting hit by the enemies. Easy enough, right? If you've played this game before, you'd know that it isn't. The game progresses fast - just the way we like it! - and after five minutes (if you can last that long) the screen is filled with evil meanies.

Well as the title implies, within a ridiculously short time from from Sony's 3.00 Firmware3.01 Firmware. Naturally everyone assumed that this was a small patch. - Install xLoader, using either the auto-installer, or by following the instructions in the readme.txt file in the ZIP package.
- Install some homebrew - perhaps by using the Installotron, which you can run from eLoader (it doesn't work well in xLoader).
- Use the PatchSFO tool to ensure that your homebrew is ready for xLoader (see below for instructions).
- Now browse to your PSP's photo menu, and open the folder 'xLoader 280'. If everything has worked, you will see 2 file icons, one a round blue circle, the other a 'corrupt data' icon. So long as your PSP hasn't crashed at this point, then xLoader is now running.
