Safely And Easily Downgrade The Firmware On Your PSP - Simple Steps

Ok lets get started, well I suppose I really should tell you that this is not a recommend practice and that Sony might get a bit upset with you so personally I would discourage anyone from messing with the firmware no there Play Station Portable ( psp ).

That said my guess is that most of you will go ahead and do it anyway, so instead of you right royally messing it up lets do it the correct way.

Just one word of warning if you don't follow the correct steps or you listen to some idiots who take pleasure in giving out bad information to wreck peoples psp's. You will end up with a freezing "bricking' the system.

So understand that there is a small amount of risk involved but also understand the delights of homebrew games awaiting you.

Ok lets get you to the wonders that are firmware 1.5 so you can play any firmware you want to.

First thing that you want to do is find out your current firmware version. Boot up your PSP to the home menu and scroll all the way to the left to the "settings" column.

From there, go to "System Settings" and "System Information". Your "System Software" is equivalent to your firmware. Take note of that firmware and follow the chart and the downgrading directions that follow.

1.5 Yippee! You're in luck! 1.51 Update to firmware 2.0, downgrade to 1.5 1.52 Update to firmware 2.0, downgrade to 1.5 2.0 Downgrade to 2.0 2.01 Update to 2.71, downgrade to 1.5 2.5 Update to 2.71, downgrade to 1.5 2.6 Update to 2.71, downgrade to 1.5 2.7 Update to 2.71, downgrade to 1.5 2.8 Out of luck for now 3.0 Out of luck for now 3.01 Out of luck for now, stay tuned things are constantly changing.

An important note. Before you start to downgrade your PSP you must check the motherboard. Don't panic, this is easily done, open up the psp as if to put a game in and look at the top right hand corner, you should see a number written backwards "IC1003" most PSP have this number but if you don't see DONOT attempt to downgrade, you PSP will freeze.

PSP 2.0 Downgrade.

1, download package FREE http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/3 2, connect PSP to computer 3, copy files "h.bin" and "index.dat" to the root of your psp ( the root is the top directory) 4, copy "overflow.tif" into the PSP PHOTO folder. ( if you don't have these folders just create them) 5, make a new folder in PSP GAME called "UPDATE" 6, download a PSP 1.5 Update file from google 7, drop the update file in the update folder 8, disconnect PSP

Ok you all prepared and ready to downgrade.

1, plug your PSP into the AC adaptor 2, start PSP. Scroll to the photo menu. 3, click x and scroll down. You psp will either hit a black screen with white letters and numbers, or it will freeze, if the PSP freezes just restart it again. 4, if you hit the black screen with white characters, perform a hard reset (hold power switch up for 10 seconds) and restart. 5, with the AC adaptor plugged in, scroll to the right and access your memory stick under GAME 6, run the 1.5 US Update 7, the update will run and inevitably fail at 99% 8, restart the PSP and you will hit the blue screen. Hit "0" 9, downgrade complete.

PSP 2.5/2.6/2.71 firmware downgrades

1, download homebrew enabler c http://dl.qj.net/index.php?pg=12&fid=10375 2,follow the real easy install instructions. 3, run the process through the photo menu ( all explained in the readme file included) 4, download the 2.71 generic downgrader http://dl.qj.net/2.71-Generic-Downgrader-PSP/pg/12/fid/10485/catid/114 5, install the program by placing the update folder inside the PSP GAME directory. Create directories, if necessary 6, download a 1.5 update eboot 7, rename it to UPDATE.PBP and put it in the PSP GAME UPDATE folder 8, run the downgrader program from the memory stick on the game menu.

Ready to rock and roll. Congratulations.
